EWCDHH Changes its Name
As of July 1, 2011, the Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing (EWCDHH) will change to the Hearing Loss Center. The name change was considered for the following
reasons: First, the mission of the EWCDHH continues to expand to those with hearing loss, late deafened adults and cochlear
implants. Current trends in technology and health care as well as a growing population of those with noise induced hearing loss or
hearing loss secondary to trauma have increased the population the center serves. The purpose of the name change was not to
exclude any population, but to include a broader range of the deaf and hard of hearing community that have yet to be served.
Secondly, the simplification of the name from Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to the Hearing Loss
Center is important from a “branding” standpoint. The Board of Directors is hopeful that the shorter name will be easier to
identify and will differentiate the center from other institutions that also have “Eastern Washington….” in their name.
The Board of Directors and staff of the Hearing Loss Center are excited to move forward with an expanded mission and population
to serve.
